AT&T offers free HBO to Unlimited Plus users

AT&T is sweetening the deal for those on their Unlimited Plus data plan. You'll get free access to HBO, whether or not you subscribe to U-Verse or DirecTV. This goes alongside other pre-existing perks, including a $25 per month credit for DirecTV, U-Verse TV, or DirecTV Now. In case you aren't privy to the terms of this plan, AT&T offers unlimited data, talk and text, including 10GB of mobile hotspot data which is slowed to 128Kbps after you hit the cap (but otherwise unlimited, too). Of course, the unlimited plan itself comes with a certain limitation of speeds, with AT&T slowing you down after 22GB per line. Still, that's a lot of data for one line, and the ability to keep going without any added charges is better than exorbitant overage fees. The plan comes in at $90 per month for 1 line, while 2 lines get it all for $145 per month, any additional lines adding another $20 to that. Knock off the chunks you get for AT&T's video savings and i...

Android’s April security patch fixes a major vulnerability to hijacks over WiFi

There's always some new security flaw that needs patching. It's been revealed that some Broadcom chips allow rogue Wi-Fi signals to execute code of attacker's choosing. Google has fixed this in the April security update but it can take a while before devices receive it and some devices won't get the update at all. The Broadcom chip is used in both iOS and Android devices. Apple already patched the vulnerability, but Google is still in the process of releasing the fix. The lack of security protections in the Broadcom chip made it a prime target. It's a pretty severe vulnerability, so make sure you update your device as soon as possible. A broad array of Android phones are vulnerable to attacks that use booby-trapped Wi-Fi signals to achieve full device takeover, a researcher has demonstrated. The vulnerability resides in a widely used Wi-Fi chipset manufactured by Broadcom and used in both iOS and Android devices. Apple patched the vulnerability with Monda...

There are still more than 65 million people playing Pokemon Go

Last Summer, we saw Pokemon Go storm onto the scene making news headlines across the globe, for better or worse. The craze has definitely died down a bit, but Niantic shared that the game is still touting more than 65 million players. This announcement came after Pokemon Go took home the title of Best Mobile and Handheld Game at the British Academy of Film, Television and Arts Game Awards ( BAFTA ). The folks at Niantic wanted to thank its fans and those who are still continuing to play the game.  Phandroid Tech News

LG made the coolest Rube Goldberg machine to show off the G6’s durability

LG’s history with advertisements hasn’t exactly been strong, but they did manage to put together a cool concept for showing off their phone’s durability. The LG G6 had a Rube Goldberg machine designed around it. The device travels through a series of obstacles and tracks as the machine takes its cues from the weight and movement of the phone to trigger each phase. To recap, the LG G6 comes with IP68 water and dust resistance, allowing it to be submerged in up to 3 meters of water for up to 30 minutes at a time. It also has MIL-STD 810G rating for shock absorption and resistance against extreme conditions such as high heat and cold. Watch the video above to see the device get whisked through the wonderful contraption. Phandroid Tech News

The LG G6 is now available at Verizon Wireless

If you're not entirely sold on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ — be it Samsung's Android UI, the curved display, or same old boring camera — the LG G6 might be for you. For those that didn't have it marked on their calendars, the LG G6 is now officially available at Verizon Wireless. It's a timed exclusive, one that gives Verizon a bit of a head start on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint who wont be selling the phone until next Friday, April 7th (although some pre-orders have begun shipping early). In addition to LG's promotion which gives you a free Google Home with every purchase (you can redeem the offer here), Verizon is sweetening the pot by throwing in a free 43-inch smart TV when you sign up for a new line, device payment plan, and/or Verizon Unlimited. You'll have to redeem that particular offer using Verizon's promo site here. The LG G6 is carrying a full retail price of $672, or $28/month for 24 months if you put it on payments. Like the Gal...

OnePlus teases “the future of Dash Charge” to be unveiled tomorrow

Yes, we know that April Fools Day is nearing, but we don't think this is one of those tricks. OnePlus took to Twitter earlier today to tell everyone to "Meet the future of Dash Charge tomorrow". Meet the future of Dash Charge tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/Jqwm3arQe9 — OnePlus (@oneplus) March 30, 2017 For the unaware, Dash Charge was created by Oppo (OnePlus' parent company) and allows owners of OnePlus devices to charge at ridiculous speeds. For example, the OnePlus 3T can be recharged from 0 to 56% in just 30 minutes and can be fully charged in 1.5 hours. Considering that the OnePlus Dash Car Charger has been out of stock until recently, we are led to believe that the company has something new up its sleeves. Hopefully, they won't have to release another version of the OnePlus 3T in order for it to work. Maybe, just maybe, we'll be seeing an all-new portable charger or something cool like that. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

How well does the LG G6 perform in a durability torture test? [VIDEO]

The LG G6 is the first LG flagship in years to feature a nearly all-glass build (remember the LG Optimus G?). There's only a very thin sheet of glass covering the back of the LG G6 and because of this, you may be wondering about the phone's durability. Since you would never want to test something like this on your own device, Zack from JerryRigEverything is back again without another one of his famous torture tests. He basically puts the LG G6 through hell, scratching and abusing the phone with a variety of tools before he gets to the real reason we're all here: the bend test. Surprisingly enough, the LG G6 passes with flying colors, providing no catastrophic failures or even much bending at all using with Zack using the full force of his hands. It's a testament to how far LG has come, showing that they're perfectly capable of manufacturing phones with solid build quality. For more on the LG G6, don't forget to check out our unboxing and Q...

Motorola accidentally showed the Moto X (2017) in their new rap video, did you spot it?

The Moto X was one of the more beloved Android handsets back during a time when smartphone design was growing sort of stale. Being able to customize the look and storage of your smartphone was always a fun prospect, but the Moto X was never about raw hardware specs. Rather, the Moto X was Motorola's way of focusing on meaningful innovation through the use of software features that looked to actually enhance the user experience, not get in the way of it.

Android Wear 2.0 rollout resumes to 5 watches

Shortly after attempting a rollout of Android Wear 2.0 to three smartwatches, Google had to pull the thing due to a last minute bug they uncovered. All seems well now, though, with a rollout now hitting not only those original watches, but even more than the original rollout. Those watches include the Polar M600, Fossil Q Wander, Fossil Q Founder, Nixon Mission, and Michael Kors Access, all of whom are joining the Casio WSD-F10, TAG Heuer Connected, and Fossil Q Founder as originally announced. We still have a lot more smartwatches in line to be hooked up. Be sure to check out the full list of smartwatches confirmed to be getting Android Wear 2.0 right here.

Here’s another look at the Moto X 2017 and its dual-rear cameras

Alongside Samsung, Motorola has been one of Android's most prominent OEMs to stay away from the growing trend of dual-rear cameras. Even Apple over in iPhoneland has given the trend their seal of industry approval. That may be a whole different story in 2017. This year's edition of the Moto X has leaked in a new product render, complete with the dual-rear camera sensors we thought we saw in a previous leak.

HTC U Ocean shows up in red in leaked render

Rumors about the next HTC U a.k.a. Ocean have slowed down a bit with the launch of major flagships from LG and Samsung. It looks like they might be picking up again. A leaked render shows off the HTC Ocean from all angles in a dark red color. This device is believed to be the successor to the HTC 10. As you can see, it has the same general shape. Two notable things are missing from this render: fingerprint scanner and headphone jack. We'd be shocked if HTC didn't include some sort of fingerprint scanner, and we'd be very disappointed if they ditch the headphone jack. Rumored specs for the Ocean include a 5.5-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, 16 & 12MP cameras, and 64/128GB of storage. We should learn more about this device later this month.

US Cellular is the only place to get a free Samsung Galaxy S8

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be pretty expensive most places, but if you happen to be a US Cellular customer they have a deal you simply can't pass up. The company is offering the device for free. $0. Nothing. Nilch. Zada. OK, we know that isn't totally true. The catch is you'll have to sign away 30 months of your cellular life to them. Oh, and you'll have to inch toward those savings as they'll be offered up in the form of monthly bill credits. One last thing: this deal only applies to the regular Galaxy S8, not the Galaxy S8 Plus. The only downside we can see is that you will have a 30-month commitment to service, but if you find yourself and the Galaxy S8 living happily ever after (or, at least for the next 2 and a half years) then this may not be such a big issue for you. Head here to pre-order yours if you're interested.

Twitter @usernames no longer count toward the 140 character limit in replies

Twitter's strict 140 character count has long been the social network's greatest challenge for new users. When drafting up a post, Twitter forces users to keep things brief. That, or get creative in how they word their posts 2 sqz evrythg insd. A lot of this had to do with Twitter's original intent of supporting Tweets by SMS, but those days are long gone. Just about everyone is using the official Twitter app or the myriad of great 3rd party options. The biggest problem with Twitter's character limit was when replying to other users' tweets — or worse yet, multiple users — obliterating your character count just to keep everyone in the conversation. Starting today, all that changes. Twitter is finally removing the @usernames from within replies, allowing you to respond to as many people as you like and still keep all 140 characters. Tapping the reply bar will allow you to see who's being included in the conversation and there's even a handy menu you can us...
